Local raw honey and homemade bee products by Johann Peters
When I was 9 years old, I moved from Germany to 44 Sydenham Street in Guelph, Ontario. That’s where the name honey44 comes from! My father comes from a vegetable farm on the North Sea and I’ve always dreamed of farming myself. In grade 4, I brought home 4 chicks that we hatched in school and my dad planted rye in the front yard for their coop. My parents wouldn’t let me keep a goat in the backyard, but in 2016 I received the book Beekeeping for Dummies for Christmas and that was the beginning of honey44.
I actually received my first bees while waiting for my first ordered nuc (essentially a bee starter kit complete with queen and a growing colony). A Swiss German friend called me and asked if I would be interested in having a swarm (feral bee colony) that she had caught at the gravel pit where her husband worked. What luck that I could start my first year of beekeeping with 2 hives!
